An IPS display is a type of LCD. 

 

Also, LED just refers to the backlight of an LCD. This post needs some work.

well if your using this for your game go for a IPS panel for sure. If you really want accuracy you could get GB-R led, but it probably wouldn't be necessary.

Plasma was a baaaaaad thing back in the day. Broke easily and the recharges....

I agree it's not the best technology out there, it has issues. But I just love the image quality, contrast, deep black levels and high refresh rates, they are also pretty well priced now.

Samsung S-PVA panels are rather close to plasma's deep blacks and good refresh rates (16ms, its ok) with really good colors and no ghosting etc

Only reason I don't use plasma though is ...well...720p.

 

My favorite panel types are VA panels, which are LCD's I guess...
