Overclocking non k

Hey Hey. I heard you can downgrade a bios if you can find the bios and uninstall the microcode from a windows security update to still overclock non k chips.

I have an asus z170 a and need an older bios. any tips

 

Update: Found the bios. How do i uninstall the microcode from windows?

Update: Found the bios. How do i uninstall the microcode from windows?

It should work now. You only need the old bios.

May I ask, why do you want to overclock a non k chip?

Same reason you overclock a k chip I presume.  To get the best performance out of the parts you have.

The chips are the exact same as the K model except for the non-unlocked multiplier.

I think k chips have a higher bin though

Yeah. But SLIGHTLY.

The Skylake K chips are only 20-40 dollars more expensive though. Buy one if you can.

no they dont, a 6600 and 6600K are from same bin, one just has unlocked multi. you can still get 6.2+ghz out of decent locked chip

That could happen with any bios update lol.  You either have dual bios or you rma the board. I just got my oc formula out for lols,  with a i5 6500 and did 4400mhz on the memory. Using 4133 multi and the Base clock.  The cpu was only 3.4ish ghz but it was fine.
