Using the HDMI port of a video card

Krisitown

Okay this is a really noob question but let me explain. So my current monitor has 2 HDMI ports a VGA port and one SCART. And my current video card has a VGA port so I was using that. However after looking around I found out that vga is old and has lower quality than dvi, display port and hdmi. Now I am waiting to receive my new card (r9 380) and I see that it doesn't have a vga port either way. So I was wondering if just plugging hdmi into my card and monitor will work because I couldn't do it with my previous card and gave up. The reason I am asking is if I should get either a dvi->hdmi or displayport -> hdmi converter to use my graphics card (and which of the 2 I should pick).

If the HDMI port on the monitor is not dead, just connect with a HDMI cable

Okay, I just wanted to make sure. The port should be fine as I used it for my xbox 360 a week or two ago.
