Upgrading soon. Need some suggestions!

Hi all! So yes I'm planning to upgrade my graphics card very soon(Hopefully by the end of the year) and would like some suggestions on what card should I get?

Mainly, I'm a FPS gamer, secondary MOBA-RTS(League of Legends to be exact).

My list of games goes like this:

Overwatch <- Main game

League

Team Fortress 2

CSGO

and hopefully some other AA/AAA games that are within same genre spectra.

My current setup is the ff: (All components are stock and have not been upgraded since the year of purchase which is mid 2012)

Core i5 2500 Processor

8GB G. Skill 1333 RAM

1 TB HDD

Asus GTX 550 Ti GPU

Win 10 Pro OS

AOC 1080p IPS Panel Monitor (~5-8ms response time)

I really love good graphics so am trying to get a card that can run all these games at High as minimum

My eyes are set on either the GTX 1060 or the RX480, since I'm quite on a budget and these card stood out to me among the others.

I would love to hear from you forum people that could be a better option than named cards above.

Thanks! Do you suggest that I get an SSD too? (Optional for now)

Both cards are equally good. It all depends of their prices where you are. The rest is aesthetics and semantics.

Pick the GPU / manufacturer you like from 480 side and so same from 1060. Whichever is priced better and is of better quality (or provides better warranty) - that's the GPU you want.

Well its not really needed, but if you want to have faster boot, and stuff like that and you have money to spare, it isnt a bad choice.

Alright I'll note that :) Right now Only Zotac/Asus strix on the 1060 side, and a bunch of reference design RX 480's are available.

The 1060 is faster in DX11 games, but gets wrecked by the 480 in DX 12. I would get 1060 if you can upgrade again soon or 480 if you want to hold onto it for a while. Also an SSD would be a good idea if you can afford it.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

Yeah although I'm still wondering if Vulkan API would be implemented in Overwatch. It's not that I worry about the FPS too much, I just don't want it to affect my gaming experience a whole bunch. But I'll note this one :)

I would go for GTX 1060.

It won't have any heat problems like RX 480.

If you get some version with 2 fans on it, your temps won't even reach 70°C on that GTX 1060.

Yeah although I'm also waiting for the NitroX version of the RX 480, and see if the price and temps can compare.

Price should be around there.

Temps however ... I don't think RX 480 can ever compare to GTX 1060 thermals :)

As long as it's below 80C I'm okay with that. I own a laptop with a GTX 860m and it gets pretty toasty, so temps are secondary. For a person like you it's probably a priority since you seem to own a lot of watercooling gear
