No point doing a spec until we know what monitor he is using, and the op is in Canada ;)

The i5 4690K will bottleneck the GTX 1080 at 1080p. You want a higher resolution such as 1440p if you want to avoid that.

Why Haswell when you get Skylake + DDR4 RAM? No SSD and only 8GB of RAM at this budget is a sin.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

Spoiler

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K - 4.5 GHz | Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO | RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 | SSD: Samsung 850 EVO - 500GB | GPU: MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6GB | PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2 | Case: NZXT Phantom 530 | Cooling: CRYORIG R1 Ultimate | Monitor: ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q | Peripherals: Corsair Vengeance K70 and Razer DeathAdder

Note: I assumed that you would like 1080p 144Hz. Also better is Skylake i5 for this build since you are gaming, and there's a bonus on peripherals they're awesome but if you dont want it ok.

I have to say that if you really want the 1080 you have to pay a little bit more like tree fiddy  ~500$ more.
