HI, I want to upgrad my PC.

But i am not that techie :)

currently I have a

ASUS z97 PRO Wi-Fi

i5 4690k - overclocked to 4GHz

Asus gtx 760

CORSAIR DDR3 CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8R 8G (2 x 4B)

the upgrade Parts should be:

ASUS GTX STRIX 1070

SAMSUNG (M.2, 950 Pro)  Read: 2200MB/s, Write: 900MB/s

RAM ? i want/need 16GB - should I buy 2 more, or a new DUAL 16GB KIT

My main question is:

The Asus z97 PRO  ( ASUS.COM Z97 PRO ) only supports 10Gb/s at the M2 slot - but the SAMSUNG 950 Pro has a theoretically read Speed of 20Gb/s

The thing is I have a ASUS Hyper M2 x4  ( ASUS.com HYPER M2 ) Can I use that together without problems, and are my PCI Express Lanes able to handle that Speed.

I want this drive as my main C:\ drive, can I boot and install my OS without any problems... ?

This new standards are very confusing

Thanks for your help,

Greetings from Autria

EDIT: OS: WINDOWS 10

Move your 2 ram sticks down to spaces and add two 8gb sticks in the old places or completely replace them the knew ddr4 2133 or higher (2400 is only a couple euros more ~2€)

as for the m.2 I'm not completely sure but I'm pretty sure it will just slow down your speeds to the board speed but I wouldn't be 100% sure

Thanks. @all

But did anyone definitely know - if the Asus Hyper M2 - PCI Express Card did work with the 950Pro - and the Board ?

The Board only supports DDR3 up to 3200mhz

Technically, it should work:

 2x PCIe 3.0 x16 (1x x16, 1x x8),

1x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4),

4x PCIe 2.0

x1, 1x M.2/M-Key (PCIe 2.0 x2, 2280/2260)

hmmm, okay it is a problem (I think) - If I plug in the HyperM2 PCI Express Card into one of the PCIe3.0 slots. both set down to max x8 Lines?

http://www.myce.com/review/native-z170-hyper-m-2-vs-pcie3-m-2-77791/

So the GPU only use 8 Lanse !?

Or did this:   (1x x16, 1x x8),      mean that the Board can handle one Device with x16 Lanes and on the other x8 !?

Linus tested the x8 x16 Lane set, so the differnce isnt that big.

^ I would suggest the following,

  • upgrade RAM to 2 x8GB Kingston HyperX Fury / Savage 1866MHz kit(s)
  • custom GTX1060 / 1070 card

You should be gaming at 1080p-60fps easy and this would be the most logical way to move forward.

If you want to get an SSD, instead of focusing on a small m.2 based SSD unit, I would suggest getting a 500GB SAMSUNG 850 EVO / PRO. Alternately if you have the money to spare, you can go for a 512GB SAMSUNG 950 PRO.

Hope this helps. Cheers!
