100% Disk Usage Questions

Hi, 

So I have been seeing 100% disk usage very frequently on my windows 10 computer. I did some looking on the web and apparently there is multiple fixes you can try for it I have tried most of them to no avail. At this point I am probably thinking that is something to do with my HDD. I was pretty much wondering how much of a performance increase will I be seeing by simply adding a SSD to my computer even for games that might not be directly on the SSD. My thinking was even if it wasn't on the SSD this game or whatever might run better because the SSD is handling windows and windows based processing (correct me if I'm wrong). Also side note just purchased a GTX 1070 and feel like using this slow hardrive and not a ssd or whatever is just making how awesome this card is seem a bit lamer than it could be. Also if you guys think a SSD would be a smart option what are some good affordable ones, keeping in mind I don't really want a lot of games on it just not well optimized games or games that have long loading screens such as arma 3, fallout 4. I was thinking a 250GB one.

HDD: TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 1TB

CPU: Intel i5-4690k 3.5Ghz Overclocked to 4.0Ghz @ 1.2volts

Cpu cooler: Hyper 212 Evo

GPU: Asus Rog Gtx 1070 Strix ( Using asus's gpu tweak software in the oc mode profile)

Ram: Kingston 12gb (Plan on upgrading just not a priority atm)

PSU: Corsair CS650M

Motherboard: Msi Z97 Pc Mate

How long does this happen, i've encountered this problem on many pc's including mine and never found an actual permanent solution but many temporary solutions

First thing you can do is press win+r and type services.msc, Look for Windows Search, Superfetch and BITS, and disable them all, then reboot your PC

 

Another option, if you are desperate you can do a clean wipe of windows, should fix the problem for a few months, maybe forever I cant assure anything

 

Third if you have skype installed either uninstall it or you have to go to regedit and do some shit, I dont remember I called windows support and they did it for me

 

Uninstall/stop any Anti virus/malware/trojan software

 

Or just buy another drive :/

HDD is around 120-180Mb/s on fast ones like WD blacks at 7200RPM. So an SSD at 550Mb/s is almost 5X the speed. It is also way faster in random reads and small files read/writes. SSDs are the way to go. Just they are a bit pricey compared to HDDs

It's really hard to say upon boot for a good 10 mins then stops then randomly restarts, I notice that when its at 100% everything takes eons to load and when its at zero everything is really fast how I would like it to be.

That is really bad then. I think it might be higher but 60MB/s or lower is really slow

Yeah well i bought this pc orginally prebuilt and the only thing prebuilt of it now is the hdd and ram lol so I mean i figured upgrading them but just spent 700$ on my gpu and like wanted to see if a ssd would solve a lot of my problems because they seem reasonable to me tbh. Like you get lightning fast read and write speeds for like a 250gb in CAD 114$.

Yeah. 550Mb/s isn't anything considering we have PCIE drives and m.2 drivers pushing 2gb/s all the way up to 10Gb/s. But those are pricey for 256 or 512

The boot itself didn't take 10 minutes it is sometimes really fast like 30-40 seconds (fast for me lol) and the sometimes its like 2 minutes but once it's started it sits at 100% disk usage for a while but I usually don't pay it much mind and just start gaming anyway.

Speaking of virtual memory I was also getting some not enough memory issues with 12gb of ram earlier but I made windows automatically manage paging files and it fixed it, it was set to a low amount I think it was from before I got more ram.

 I was having the same problem a few months back, this appeared to fix it for me. It seems to be a problem with windows 10.
