Is it ok if I put a motherboard onto a wooden desk and run it? I need to test this motherboard and don't have anywhere else to put it.

Yes thats fine (as long as the desk is clean and dry), it just can't touch metal.

Thanks guys, Stupid question but, if I ran a cpu without a heatsink would the motherboard fry along with the cpu?

i think it will auto shut down. not sure though.  :)

Yeah woods non conductive so that's fine

 

You could also use the box the mobo came in if you need, or the anti static bag?

Antistatic bag could damage the system. Wood or box.

no it WILL shut down when overheating, except you modify your BIOS settings

I challenge you to find a single person in the world who has actually managed to kill a component on the outside of an anti static bag.
