Software for Subtitles?

Hey guys. I have a freelancing job where I must translate a French movie to English. Now I want to know if there are any good softwares out there where I can put subtitles into the video? So I must give a French video English subtitles basically. It is a .mp4 file.

i think the best thing you can do is to make a mkv file combining the mp4 and the srt files.

Not sure if it would work for your purpose but i found a program called MKVtoolnix which allows to add and remove files from a mkv file

The best way to measure the quality of a piece of code is "Oh F*** "s per line

Shouldn't the place you decided to work for have the tools available for this? Or at least be able to tell you what they use for this...
