Can someone suggest a GPU for a 1080p non g-sync/freesync panel which is not overkill and waste of money.

gtx 1060 is almost 400$ here in my country.RX 480 reference is around 270$.Is gtx 970 still worthy to get?

Thank you!

GTX 970 is not good anymore and you should probably get 480 if it's that cheap. But you could also look into getting something like a used 980ti

GTX 970 is long dead. 1060 is ahead of the 970 and RX 480... Get a 1060, as the AMD GPU's have driver issues

Stop spreading misinformation, AMD Drivers are fine right now, they were bad for a time in the past.

This is true. I think it's just the herd of nvidia users that read or hear about amd having drivers issues at some point in time and since they have geforce cards they don't know when the temporary driver problem has been fixed.

Mainly heat and noise, and somewhat power consumption is what makes it in my opinion a bad graphics card from personal experience.

Well looking at your bio you have a sapphire 380 which uses a different architecture as the 390 and it runs a lot cooler.

I did not have the money for the 390, that was what i wanted

If there's RX 480 that's cheap as you mentioned, make sure to look if it's a 8gb version or a 4 gb version and is it reference or not.

By now, you should wait for AIB RX 480 vs gtx 1060 benchmarks.

You need to know that if a gtx 1060 go past the ~260$ USD mark, it loses its value and become hard to justify when you have a lower priced RX 480, especially when AIB are coming with their models.

RX 480 or GTX 1060. The 480 will last longer because Nvidia does not have dedicated Async compute hardware and is unable to keep up and offer real performance improvements in DX12. The 1060 is good for now, but a year from now you would probably regret it tbh. AMD has fixed their driver issues and the experience is pretty great. I plan on picking up an RX 480 myself.
