Completely overkill home server type thing

I was thinking a Xeon e5 and the 770 I'm probably gonna be replacing with a R9-290x. I want it to be able to do pretty much anything I want to do with it. The main reason I'm building this will be just to mess with btw.

I have a budget of $1000 so any ideas? (No windows pheripherals hard drives or anything like that)

Preferably a motherboard that can support 8 or more drives

A 770 won't give you much fun in a server rig. Sell it and buy a silly amount of drives and a cool raid controller with the money. Or a PCIe SSD. Or a sweet capture card.

 

Just get something cool. The world is your oyster once you go overkill  :wub:
