I have a 7870 right now and really like to run games with physx but it lags because my cpu isn't that good. I have a GTX 280 sitting in my lap right now. Do you think it's worth using as a dedi physx card?

Also would it work with a 750w psu with my current setup?

Would it at least improve performance while running physx?

hmmm not sure. I don't know to much about a dedicated Physx card but hanging around on the forum I've heard that it's not very good

Someone (may have been a linus video) did a video about this last year (maybe).

If I'm not mistaken the results were essentially after 1 model generation and 1 model down the lesser PhysX card starts to bottleneck the main GPU. ie 680 with 570 PhysX ok. 680 with 560 PhysX will bottleneck.

That isn't quite the video I thought it was....

What's the worst that could happen anyway? it doesn't help and you're in the same spot.

Think my psu could handle a 280 with the 7870? The 280 (if im not mistaken) the make TDP is like 300w

Sell the 280 and your 965t and buy a better cpu.

From that video DaFirnz posted its pointless, not beneficial enough for me to ever do it anyway.

AMD Cards make physx run on the CPU, and the 280 used to be the worlds single fastest GPU and it honestly handled up to BF3 on medium - high very well.. I just don't know if my PSU would handle it.
