Hi,

So I am entering the PC-MasterRace and I have some knowledge of computers 'n stuff.

I want to build a pc with upgradeability in mind.

Will this work:

Case: NZXT Noctis

PSU: Corsair CS550M

CPU: Intel Core i5 6500 with stock cooler (planning on other cooler ofc but I'm not overclocking the cpu)

MOB: MSI H170 Gaming M3

RAM: HyperX Fury 2133MHZ 8GB (planning to add a second stick in the future for 16GB total)

SSD: Some old OZC 60GB that I have, also needs an upgrade.

HDD: Same story as the SSD

GPU: TBD (probably RX480 or 1060)

I'm happy with any response, criticism or ideas.

Regards,

Snieky

If you want room for upgrades you'll definitely need another PSU. I'd probably recommend the corsair RM750x, since it comes with a 7/10 year warranty. More than twice that of the other ones, for a little higher price, and the wattage will come good when you're adding your second GPU.

60gb SSD will be a pain to use as a main disk, since Windows will take up a third of it before you're even at the desk, and a fifth would be good to keep empty to make it easy for the old guy to keep up with demands. So you'd be left with barely 30gb to use, so you should probably get yourself a decent HDD and use 50gb of the SSD as a cache through Intel's Rapid Storage Technologies, which will look out for the disk for you. (mostly)

Excuse my broken keyboard

Spoiler

CPU - Ryzen 7 2700x

GPU - RX Vega 64

SSD - Samsung 970 M.2 500GB

HDD - WD Black 4TB

Mobo - Asus ROG Strix X470-F Gaming

RAM - 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4

PSU - Corsair RM1000x

It looks good. If you ever want to get a overclockqble cpu a 600-700W psu would be better. All around balenced build. Gj

Unsure what power supply to pick?

Check out my HTPC build.

Quote me/others so we can help you

1. Get the corsair 400c case IMO it looks better and it offers better air flow.

2. Oh god no not the CS. Get the EVGA supernova g2 650w or 550w it's the same price as the corsair and MUCH better.

3. Try and get higher speed ram, the faster the better even for i5's

4. continuing from my 3rd point: Get a Z170 board here's one that's the same price as the gaming m3: asRock fatal1ty gaming k4. It has potential for more than 2133MHz ram and better future expand ability.

other than that it's a great pc. Make sure to do your research, the more the better.

A Z170 motherboard on a nonK CPU is a bit waste. Like I said before, for whoever goes H170 a good option is the H170 Hyper series, that model allows overclocking for nonK CPUs :)

Not really - as I said it offer more ram frequencies and future expand ability for the same price ... totally worth it.
