You didn't really understood then: Your CPU won't magically give you more FPS once your GPU starts lagging behind. Most games use the GPU quite a bit more and almost none of them can really take advantage of more than 4 cores: hyperthreading doesn't really do shit for gamers.

That's even further down the road, my CPU will fall behind before my GPU.

It will not. That's the entire point of this interchange: you're assuming wrong. GPUs are outpaced way faster than CPUs. It's why people still get away with fairly old CPUs today with midrange cards.
