Help with how many RAM needed

Hi everyone, just want to ask your suggestions regarding selecting how many modules to use for ram.

 

I saw 4 x 4GB rams = 16GB  DDR4  and 4 x 8GB rams = 32GB rams DDR4.

 

Is 16GB enough for gaming and some video editing or should I go to the 32GB?

16 gigs is enough, but 32 will likely get you faster results in video editing.

16 is more than enough, but get a 2x8 kit so that you can upgrade if you ever need to.

Thanks for the reply, are referring to rendering times when you said faster results? That's what I am aiming for.

What do you edit with? If it is the AdobeCC 32gb is the minimum

Rendering time which in turn will mean you can theoretically code the video faster. Alot also depends on your CPU choice as well.

Ok thank you. Going for an i7-6700 soon. Will that be enough to have moderate rendering time paired with 32 gigs of ram? (let's say 2666 mhz ram or will this matter at all?)

Yea, the i7 is the ideal choice for rendering due to the performance gains with Hyper threading. You may also want to look at going with a K model to overclock to get increase performance gains.

Signatures

• Text only, no images or other external content linked
• No Advertising/External Links, other than to other LTT forum posts

That is the only thing listed for Signatures in the standards section:

Thanks again. Since I do not know how to OC might as well go with the non-K. I just want want average use on my pc.

Overclocking is actually very simple these days tbh compared to the old non UEFI BiOS days. If you can build a PC, you can overclock. Honestly.

Oh I see, let me do some R&D regarding OC. Anyway, Since you are overclocking your cpu, do you think it will degrade my cpu's lifespan fast? or will it last at least 3 years or so?

So easy that some boards now have a little button that will automatically overclock the system for you.

Sorry for I have no knowledge about this.

As long as you do not exceed the safe voltage limit which is generally 1.3 to 1.35v on modern chips, you should be fine. I have had my i5 4690k OC'd since day 1 with as much as 1.3v depending on how much I push it. It also depends on which motherboard you have, which will need to be a Z170 chipset to allow Overclocking and will also required adequate cooling. The stock cooler does not come with a 6700k so you will need to purchase aftermarket cooling.

I was going to purchase an AIO though even if I do not OC my cpu. 

 

Day 1 with OC, that's great to hear.

I have had it since March 2014 and its still going strong at 1.26v currently OC'd to 4.5ghz without issue.

Well, I was editing using After Effects, Sony vegas, using Adobe Media Encoder, Sometimes I compressed videos to smaller sizes using V.A.F.E. 

Will 32GB suffice?

32gb is good. I had 16gb and it was not nearly enough so I now have 64gb and it is gud real gud

Depends on how much video you are editing, how big it is, resolution and bit rate, real time previews etc etc.

 

32GB seems a little skimpy to me if you are trying to get as close to real time as possible, you want 128GB minimum in my opinion, and that's only at 1080P, as you scale higher up to 8K, yes my crew have used up to 3TB ram so far editing 8K raw real time.

 

Gaming, i'm sure 8GB is enough, child's play.
