Hello guys, my professor at the university asked me to buy a NVIDIA gpu with as much as possible cuda cores for parallen programming . My choices are 2 with 2 subchoices from each category.

1st.)

Right now i have 230 euros so i could either pick gtx 780 ti and got nothing left or get gtx 780 stay with 40 euros ( i found someone already that sells palit 780 jetstream)

2nd)

The other option is to work for month (if i manage to find a job) and get get 400-500 euros (i live in greece) and with those money i could buy a gtx 980 for 330 or an 980ti for 400 euros

1xxx series are way too expensive so i will not even get glimpe of them.

I remind you that i do not care about gaming but Only for the best Pure-perfomance /euro ratio

780 has 2304 ,cost 190

780ti has 2880, cost 230

980 has 2048 , cost 330

980ti has 2816, cost 400

Help me choose what it's better for me

He literally just said "1xxx series are way to expensive so i will not even get glimpe of them."

CUDA core count is meaningless. If you need raw compute power then why are you even looking at Nvidia's older products? Buy a 290X and be done with it

What language/software? Again - unless you are using CUDA-exclusive tools then Nvidia cards are just a price premium

He is using only cuda -exclusive tools . I do not know what language or software yet cause i kinda don't shit yet about that kind of programming. He will teach me.

Ask him first. Before you spend that amount of money it's a good idea to be informed about what you will be doing. For instance, if the software is compatible with OpenCL then you can easily get something like a 290(X)/390(X) and enjoy substantially higher compute power than a 780 Ti or 980

The core count doesn't matter as the cores on a 1070 are much faster. Look at cuda and game benchmarks, not core count.

How much vram do you need?

Id probably go 780ti
