Low FPS with HTML5 in Firefox

Go to solution Solved by DrM,

it might be an issue with firefox still being singlethreaded by default. go into about:config and change "dom.ipc.processCount" to the number of threads on your cpu, then restart firefox and see if it helps

I have this issue with watching Youtube and Twitch in Firefox with HTML5 where the video or stream says it's 60 fps but it feels like 30 fps

or just really choppy 60fps. I tried watching the same stream and video in Chrome and had no problems (it was smooth 60fps), but i do not want to switch to chrome since i have loads of addons and such on Firefox and i just don't like Chrome.

I then got the idea to use the program "Livestreamer" to stream the Twitch broadcasts to VLC and it was as good as chrome, again no low fps or stutters.

so my question is, are there any workaround on getting Firefox to work smoothly?

another thing you can try is force the browser to connect more aggresively and fully utlize your bandwidth. set "network.http.pipelining" and "network.http.pipelining.aggressive" to true, and "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to 100

Thank you so much DrM! I've never heard of this solution before and i'm happy to get an answer so quickly. Instead of utilizing 1 core i set it to 8 just to be safe :D

I also changed the other configs you recommended, so i'll see how it goes!
