I believe they use solder almost like washers, you may have over-tightened and squished it?

1. rephrase again please

2. read post above please @ it may help you to help me...   the post reads: the picture is from a installation guide... it must be normal

3. also i dont think my backplate is tight enough because that standoff spins and i think its dug in just like this guy who made installation guide, his done it too...

I read the posts, I've installed like 8 of these, including one in my own system and I never saw this happen even when I tightened it down very very tight. I want to say you should remove the cooler and take more pictures but if it's become attached or stuck to the motherboard removing it might damage it.

I just got my evo out of the closet to take a look and mine has black plastic washers, no solder or whatever that is so I have no idea what's going on with yours.

There is no glue, the washer spins and moves freely on the standoff but it cannot be removed.

how often are we all warned in CPU cooler vids not to over tighten backplates, nuts, and screws?

what do these washers do? @

They do what all washers do, keep two things that you would rather not have touching from touching. They are also the most common part left out when building something.

There isn't solder on the cooler mounting holes on my motherboard, in fact I can't recall ever seeing solder on the cooler mounting holes on any motherboard.

its clearly a motherboard mounting screw in that picture above not a CPU cooler mounting hole..

Yes but considering nobody else has any other ideas on what it is that's going to be the best guess lol
