What's my next logical upgrade from Sli 980tis and 144hz 1440p ? 

4K 144hz ? And one gpu that pushes that or Sli 1180tis ? 

What would make the most sence ?

Right now, 4K 144Hz isn't possible. 120Hz is possible, but I'm not aware of any monitors with those specs that are actually available. 

 

There isn't really a logical next step. Waiting for the 1080Ti, maybe.

No GPU will do 4k 144hz right now.

Just hold off until that time comes. 144hz 1440p is plenty. You can always go 4k 60hz if you care that much.
