Hi all

So I want to get a new PC.

What I used to have: I have used laptops all my life, never a desktop. Laptops were mid range, nothing fancy.

What i currently have: I have a functional HP stream laptop for notes and web on the go.

Purpose: Photoshop, light graphics by Adobe, light video editing, i might play some light game.

So my points:

points for a desktop:

1. Last 5 years i have bought about 3 laptops, they break very easy. Furthermore once broken the cash is down the toilet (no/hard repairs). If i had gotten a desktop, i would have ended with just swapping the broken parts.

2. 99,999% of the time my laptops are parked on my desk, connected to monitor.

points for a laptop:

1. I am terrorized by the size of a desktop, furthermore i change appartments and travel abroad often so wtf im gonna do with a desktop?

I was thinking about a mini itx desktop build, the tiniest desktop possible so i can place it in a suitcase easily, but still having fullblown desktop parts. But from what i see not many options on that front (i see a Coolermaster elite 120 where i live and thats prettymuch it)

What do you think?

I love laptops, here are a few if you are interested.

Dell Inspiron 15 7559

i7-6700HQ | GTX 960M 4GB | 8 GB RAM | 1TB + 8GB SSHD | 1920 x 1080 | $849.99

This is my personal favorite, I own it and it works great.

Dell Alienware 13

i5-6200U | GTX 960M 2GB | 8GB RAM | 500GB + 8GB SSHD | 1920 x 1080 | $999.99

Less performance than the 7559, but more upgradability, better build quality, and better looks.

HP Pavilion 15-ak010nr

i7-6700HQ | GTX 950M 4GB | 8GB RAM | 1TB HDD | 1920 x 1080 | $899.99

Good performance per dollar, though the 950M is not as capable as a 960M.

ASUS K501UX

i7-6500U | GTX 950M 2GB | 8GB RAM | 256GB SSD | 1920 x 1080 | $749.99

Nice build quality, SSD, and lower price, though it is not as powerful as the others.

Tnx for fast reply

I was looking precisely at Asus K501 (LX is the version i see here).

its  i5-5200/4 ram/500hdd/GTX950M 4G its in offer at 390€ or 430$

I can add 8gigs of ram to total of 12 and m2 120 ssd totals 450€ or 500$

There plently of mitx cases such as the rvz01,rvz02, sg13, ... Here is a big list of them.

And with a desktop they are a lot more flexible with upgradability, they don't have ram limits like laptops, you can upgrade the gpu, and cpu independently, and will have better performance for the price, though you do have to provide a monitor as well.

If you need help getting a parts list together there is a new build and planning section.

 •E5-2670 @2.7GHz • Intel DX79SI • EVGA 970 SSC• GSkill Sniper 8Gb ddr3 • Corsair Spec 02 • Corsair RM750 • HyperX 120Gb SSD • Hitachi 2Tb HDD •

do a mini itx build or a micro atx if your fine with the slightly bigger size. desktops have better value for money than laptops
