Hello everyone...I'm back! 

 

Sorry, I couldn't resist the Kojima reference.

 

Anyway, this is Project A.Y.U v2.0, an updated version of the current build I did over a year ago. All I'm going to be doing is making a few changes and additions. So in short, same system, just with a few different parts.

And with that, here is the parts list (parts in bold are additions):

 

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX - Galaxy Silver

RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600Mhz - White

HDD: Western Digital Blue Series 4TB

PSU Cables: CableMod E-Series Custom Sleeved PSU Cables - Black and White

Lighting: NZXT HUE+ Advanced PC Lighting Kit

 

I will also be adding two additional USB PCI/PCIe cards. One 5 port (4 external, 1 internal) USB 2.0 card and one 4 port (3 external, 1 internal) USB 3.0 card. The reason for these two is simple. This machine will be VR Ready (I'm still torn between the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift).

 

The re-build will start this Thursday and I will be logging every step. Why Thursday? Well...I'm going on a trackday to Snetterton on Wednesday (2 hour drive at 5AM) and I need some practice.

 

So until then, here's a picture of those parts to wet your appetite.

Good morning. The system is ready to be stripped down. But first (as you can see in the bottom left corner) vital fuel is required ?

System is now in bits. Coffee has been drunk and the dust is unreal!!

Compound cleaned from both CPU and cooler. Now for the first addition...

Standard fans out, Noctua fans in with a slight layout change. 2x NF-A14s in the front, 3x NF-F12s in the top, but the same NF-A14 in the back.

Motherboard and CPU Cooler installed. Even installed the hard drives.

Sorry it's been a while, I haven't stopped since 9am this morning. But after all of that, this is end result of my labours. I know one of the cables is very out of place at the moment, but I will get it sorted.

good job, but the one thing I don't get is why you got these ugly fans... silent wings are as expensive as the noctuas and as powerful, but look waaaaay better... a dark rock pro would also suit very well

since he lives in a "converted attic" type floor it gets super hot in every season except for the winter. I've lived in one before and Im sure that's the reason for the noctuas. They aren't ugly, they are a style

It's actually an Ikea MALM.

That plinth that the computer sits on was the pull-out panel. Both that and the audio shelf were made by my dad.

They may be ugly by some, but they do their job very well indeed. Same can be said about the HD 598. They look ugly in terms of colour, but sound amazing.

You are right in saying that this room IS a converted attic (it was my brother's bedroom before he moved out). But this being England, it doesn't get hot at all, even in the summer. It does get really bloody cold in the winter!!
