Choice of Monitors for new build [New vs 2nd Hand. 144hz vs Ultrawide]

Lukiose

Hello, i am currently in the process of building a sick new rig, but i've hit a snag.

The two monitors i am pitting up against each other is a brand new Acer Predator XB270HU at 850sgd against a used, but in perfect condition LG 34UC97 that i can obtain for 900sgd.

My planned rig is as follows:

Case: Inwin 901

Cpu: i5-6600k

Mobo: Asus Maximus VIII Impact

Ram: Avexir Core DDR4/3000 2x8gb

PSU: EVGA Supernova P2 650W

SSD: Samsung 850Evo 250GB

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

GPU: UNDECIDED. PRICES ARE CURRENTLY A RIP OFF, NEED HELP.

I currently game on a shitty 1080p60hz TN Samsung S24b350h so as you can see, both are major upgrades to me.

With regards to the state of current GPU technology, i truly cannot bring myself to buy a GPU at the moment as the 10xx series are blatant daylight robbery, while i cannot find a 980ti for cheap. I have concerns as to whether i can actually drive the 1440p/144hz if i do get it, as i believe 1440p ultrawide might be less intensive. Also, while G-Sync is nice, i don't really like the idea of locking myself to only Nvidia GPUs when the time comes.

What are your opinions on either monitors?

I'd go with the ultrawide with a 1080 (when the time comes where prices are a bit lower)

"Sulit" (adj.) something that is worth it

i7 8700K 4.8Ghz delidded / Corsair H100i V2 / Asus Strix Z370-F / G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB 3200 / EVGA GTX 1080Ti FTW3 / ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q

Samsung 850 EVO 500GB & 250GB - Crucial MX300 M.2 525GB / Fractal Design Define S / Corsair K70 MX Reds / Logitech G502 / Beyerdynamic DT770 250Ohm

SMSL SD793II AMP/DAC - Schiit Magni 3 / PCPP

Old Rig

i5 2500k 4.5Ghz | Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P | Zotac GTX 980 AMP! Extreme | Crucial Ballistix Tactical 16GB 1866MHz

So i currently effectively have a Lamborghini without it's engine sitting here in my house >.<

I'm hesistant on grabbing the 10xx series as they are the first cards in Nvidia's 16nm generation. I know the 1080ti and Titan P is to come and i expect massive performance increments on whatever subsequent cards Nvidia chooses to release.

Would going for a second hand 980ti be better in this case if i can find it for cheap?
