I'm not sure if it's for the aesthetics for why you want water cooling or for doing mild oc but not gonna stop ya:

Here's a much cheaper 120mm, also white/black: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/rbKhP6/deepcool-captain-120-white-911-cfm-liquid-cpu-cooler-captain120white

Or for like $6 more you can just get this: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/CrDzK8/corsair-cpu-cooler-cw9060025ww

If you're willing to get rid of your asus optical drive and save a little space, here's a compact build:

Hey I'm new here and I'd like help in building a PC. This will be my first ever build but I know a good amount about PC's and assembly. I live in the US, I know that effects price a little. Here's my parts I've picked out. I won't need a hard drive that will be the only thing I gut from my current gaming PC.

Why not go for a Skylake build? There's very minimal price differences.

Looks pretty good. However, I would hold off on the GPU because the GTX 1060 is coming out soon, which will (hopefully) have the performance of a 980 for about the same as, or less than, the 970. Also why not go with LGA 1151 and a Skylake CPU? A bit more power efficient and future-proof. Also, at that budget I would consider a K chip, because you will benefit from doing some overclocking. All your choice in the end though, good luck!

I think that you should go for a 1070 instead of the 970 and perhaps you should try sky lake not much more expensive and it will perform better and HELP with future but there is no true future proof though

Why would you buy an iPhone 5 when there's iPhone 6 available and they have identical price?

A bit more performance, more power efficiency, and less heat. The biggest thing, though, is that you will be able to upgrade in the future without switching out your motherboard. Intel will keep making LGA 1151 chips, which Skylake runs on, for a few years, but they are done with 1150 (What Haswell runs on).

at the cost of turning an i7 into i5, he looks to be wanting to OC his i7 as well

Really want a i7 and the case has to be white. I love white cases since and it'll go well with my white consoles

Are you willing to go used on some of your parts? Because currently you can find cheap Z87 motherboards on ebay that will save you 30 bucks on your board and get an i7-4790K used on ebay that will save you an additional 30 bucks.

I've never thought of buying used but for easing my nerves and for only $30 I'd prefer new

Here you go, tried to stay as close to your original Haswell build. I do urge you to wait for the GTX 1060.

White case, black/white theme, better PSU and SSD, 16gigs of ram. You wouldn't be needing the thermal paste and extra fan anymore.

If you really want to have a GTX 1070 and your precious i7, here is a build:

Stuff I had to skimp on:

1. 600w PSU instead of my originally mentioned 700w PSU

2. only 120GB SSD

3. a smaller 500GB HDD

4. A case with a lower build quality (although it IS in white just like you absolutely MUST have)

Or he can stick to a Skylake + GTX 1060 and not skimp on FOUR parts. The 1060 has *allegedly* the performance of a 980 so it's overkill for 1080p gaming and can do 1440p by tweaking a few settings.

He'll also end up with a rig that's great to look at inside and out.
