Keyboard and mouse won't turn on- Windows 10

Hey there,

I need help solving this weird issue.

I cannot use my mouse or keyboard. When I start up my PC they turn on, they will work on the BIOS too, however, they will not turn on when I get to the Windows log in screen (windows 10).

I have a Ducky wired keyboard and a Mionix wired mouse.

I did a clean install about 2 days ago of Windows 10, but I was running windows 10 before on the same PC (mobo and all) so I am not sure what happened.

Thanks!

Current Build:

CPU: Core i5-9600K MOBO: Asus strix z390-i RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB - 3200mhz GPU: Asus Geforce GTX 970 Strix Storage: Samsung SSD 500GB & Samsung 1TB SSD Case: Louqe Ghost S1 Cooler: Noctua L12 - 92mm fan only PSU: Corsair SF600 Keybaord: Ducky Shine 3 Cherry MX Red

Plug them in after you log on. Any improvement?

I've tried that. Nothing.

Have you looked in device manager or attempted to get it to install the drivers manually?

You don't have an alternate mouse and keyboard to try?

Also, try booting into Safe Mode and see if the keyboard and mouse work there. The mouse and keyboard drivers are supposed to be set to "automatic" in services.msc but malware can set them to manual. Try booting into Safe Mode then accessing services.msc and see if their run setting is correct.

Good luck. If you're able to get into Safe Mode and the settings are set to manual, go ahead and run Malwarebytes and see if it finds anything while in Safe Mode.

Alright.

Also, no, I don't have any other peripherals to try to work around it. It's just these 2 wired USB ones.

Yeah, booted into safe mode. Can't use mouse or keyboard to log in to safe mode desktop.

Edit - I disabled the xhci hands off and the intel 3.0 usb thing inside the bios. I disabled both and kept the legacy option on. Both mouse and keyboard work just fine now. Entered into safe mode. Running scan now.

No, I was using the blue 3.0.

It works now.

i am booted into Windows just fine.

I am not sure if I should turn on the intel thing in the usb settings in the bios though.

Oh, yea.
The ASUS motherboard I have has 3 options in the advanced menu for USB settings.
There was the legacy which I kept on, the xhci hands-off, and the Intel 3.0 thing (which is called something else). I turned the last 2

off (disabled) and after I did that everything worked in safe mode. Then I went back to normal mode with those 2 still disabled and everything works just fine too.
However, I am not sure if I should at least try to turn on the intel 3.0 usb thing since it might help USB 3.0 devices connected to those ports.

I'm looking in the manual: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1150/MAXIMUS-VII-HERO/E9799_MAXIMUS_VII_HERO_V2_WEB.pdf page 3-35

leave them by default and keep the m&k plugged into the black ports

Well I'm glad you figured it out. Sorry for sending you on a wild goose chase.
