Microsoft has reached out to HTC to see if the company would be interested in adding Windows as a second OS to its Android handsets, a new report by Bloomberg claims. It isn’t clear exactly how the two operating systems would share the handset, in terms of allowing dual-booting or making a user choose a default at device setup, but it’s a sign Redmond may be thinking about pulling out all the stops to get people using its mobile OS.

I would toy around with WP8 if I could dual boot. I used WP7 for a while, I kinda liked it, but I hated that it wouldn't let me do what I wanted all the time, like changing the font size in text messages. And as long as the app support is as crappy as it is, I don't see a lot of consumers getting these phones. Dual-boot and two sims, that would make a helluva crossover-phone for personal and professional use.

I have an HTC 8S, used it when the screen was getting replaced on my One X, and it's a nice phone except for WP8.

WP8 itself isn't that bad, in fact it is perfectly usable for most people, but it's lacking so much 3rd party app support and has a lot of little niggles here, which can make it very frustrating.

If my 8S ran Android it would be my main phone. I'd probably even buy a Lumia if they ran Android and I think a lot of people think they same. So, I'm sorry Microsoft but I think you will find that people want the opposite of what you are trying to do, which is have Android on WP8 phones, not the other way round.

If they can dual boot I would wonder if I would be able to mod my HTC 8S to dual-boot Android. :)

One thought that just struck my mind... Isn't MS' businesdmodel that each OEM pays a little for each handset that uses WP, but in return gets an OS that is inherently easier to maintain (since its done by MS) and easier to integrate with HW? (@opposed to Android which by itself is free, but has a lot of hidden costs). How will MS make any money on these devices? Or are MS at the point where they don't care about revenue on their mobile OSes and just want to increase popularity?

I really like the windows phones, my wife's HTC windows phone 8 is great.

The biggest barrier is that there's no apps. That's what Microsoft needs to fix.

I would try it to be honest. Nothing to loose. This might open up the Rom devs to more WP8 ports to android. that would be cool.

I'd love to see some of the higher end android headsets running WP8. I have the HTC HD7 and love it. Was looking to get a Samsung ATIV S (Basically WP8 on the Galaxy S3) since it looks like a good set and I can unlock it and use it on Wind Mobile if I want (Wind Mobile's WP8 selection is balls bad).
