If I may, why not go with an Intel CPU?

You are wrong. Currently intel is even winning the CPU battle (for the most part). That is expected to change when AMD released Zen, but we'll see how that plays out. That being said there's also nothing wrong with going AMD. they aren't "bad" or anything. Intel is currently the way to go though.

You want a 1k gaming rig with 2 monitors? does that 1k include the cost of the monitors? or is it 1k for just the tower? do you have any particular form factor or aesthetic in mind?

Actually, Intel CPUs right now are much better than AMD's, save for the low budget market.

With $1000, I would buy this setup:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($239.99 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Shadow Rock Slim 67.8 CFM Rifle Bearing CPU Cooler  ($49.85 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($92.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: *G.Skill Ripjaws 4 Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory  ($65.98 @ OutletPC)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($89.99 @ NCIX US)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($47.49 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon RX 480 8GB Video Card  ($269.99 @ B&H)
Case: NZXT S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($64.95 @ Directron)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($74.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $996.21
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
*Lowest price parts chosen from parametric criteria
Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-07-09 20:12 EDT-0400

Overclockable i5, a GPU that can more or less max out 1080p, and an SSD, there's a lot to like in this build. In games, this CPU will perform up to 50% better than a FX-8350

Pretty good build, but I would go with the HD3P motherboard, rather than the HD3 motherboard. It gives you access to 3.1 A and C USB ports for like 10 bucks more.

EDIT: okay I guess its like 20 bucks more. but still. decent deal.

Eh, I tried to stick to the budget. But you might be right.

Either way USB 3.1 adoption isn't so big that it's a necessity yet. It's a nice thing to have

Hmm.

Initially I was alarmed because of the price but it looks like it's that low because of a mail-in rebate. It's being hard to find reviews for this particular line and it's based on two different platforms, one by CWT and one by Enhance. Now CWT has been stepping their game up recently but they're very capable of making lousy PSUs, as for Enhance, I wouldn't know.

I don't like to use rebates when I recommend a build because they don't always work and when they do, they might take a while. If someone gets one, that's a bonus.

The one in the spec is the CWT version.

From the product page it looks fine to me.

Hard to trust a product page of a power supply since they want their products to look good

But i've a feeling that it's a fine PSU that won't fry components.

But you can see it has Nippon Chemi-Con caps, and also most of the power (744W) available on the 12v rail.It is also continuous power and not peak power. It looks fine to me.
