Hello.
So last night my parent's tablet froze completely and the only way to shut it down was to hold the power button for a while. It had already been slowly decaying over time but nothing too bad: a little sluggish from time to time and apps would shut down with no warning but it would immediately pick them back up with no big deal.

When they went to turn it on again, it was stuck on the Acer boot logo, with the slogan and the "Powered by Android". It'll stay there forever until the battery runs out.
I tried hard resetting the thing twice already and the problem persists.
Should i try to root and flash a new ROM onto it? If so, any tips/tutorials on how one would go about doing those? (The only other phone I flashed a ROM into was a ZTE Barcelona, and it wasn't even mine).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If the data on it is not important, just do a factory reset from the recovery menu.

That should fix it.

If that doesn't, you can flash another ROM. From my past experience, flashing another ROM leaves the internal storage intact, and if you don't wipe data (dirty flash) you won't lose anything, although a dirty flash can result in issues. You should make a backup though. I've already forgot how this backup is called again, but I think you understand what I mean, the backup option in almost any custom recovery.

I did do 2 factory resets to no avail.

To flash another ROM would I have to root the device as well? Could you point me in the right direction?

Depends on the type of tablet. The last time I have flashed a rom is 3 years ago, I can't tell the exact details anymore.

You will most likely have to unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery, method depends on your tablet. After recovery flashed you can flash a ROM using the recovery. No root needed.
