So I've decided I want to upgrade to Windows 8. I have a few questions though. A while back you could use a Windows 8 upgrade disc to do a clean install (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQyxD-ifsGo for instance). Is this still possible? Are there any downsides to doing it this way? And is this (http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-8-Pro-Upgrade/dp/B008H3SW4I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1380854724&sr=8-3&keywords=windows+8) basically all I need to do the clean install?

You can either do a clean install or an upgrade, retaining all of your programs, files and settings from W7, files and settings from Vista or just files from XP.

The downsides are obvious, really. You lose all the data on the drive you just wrote over. The upside is clean installs won't be bogged down from Day 1.

And yes, that disk is all you need.

Hope I covered it all :)

For the record, I was skeptical going into W8, because of the bad press, but 6(ish) months later I am still just as sold on it as I was one day/week/month after installing it. The sheer number of bugs fixed alone is worth the upgrade from W& to W8 IMHO.

Thanks so much. I knew going into it I would have to back up anything I didn't want to get wiped. Luckily I'm not not attached to most of my data on my PC (Just a gaming pc really). Anything I wanted to back up I either have or I'm going to before I do the install. And I'm pretty sold on it at this point because of the improved boot time, overall quicker feeling, and lower FPS dips in games (as in the min). Now may actually be a good time to get that SSD I've been wanting. We'll see haha

Definitely. SSD's are the best upgrade you can get by far.

Good luck with all that. Feel free to message me if you have any issues with it. I've done it on about 8 friends/family machines :)
