get 8gb of ram now, and if its still not enough, then add in an extra 1x8gb of ram(i doubt so, my ram usage is nowhere near 8gb).

anyways, made some edits.

Depending on what he uses his PC for, 16 GB is always nice. I was a bit limited in video editing when I had 8 GB's of RAM. But for other stuff 8 GB is more than enough. I had 50 Chrome tabs open at once, and still had RAM left over.

sometimes they may be on sale or on rebates/promo, causing prices to drop(like the thermaltake toughpower i recommended and the Nova). sometimes its due to not enough stock and too much demand, or vice versa. have 6 tabs of google chrome and steam open and my ram usage is 3.5gb now, might be something else that is eating up your ram.

why would you have 18 tabs open anyways o.O? turn off the tabs when you're gaming, then you shouldn't max out your ram so easily.

close the tabs that you wouldn't use, so that your ram doesn't max out so easily.
