My question is should I just upgrade my current set up or should I just sell and start a new build?

I was thinking of getting an i5 K with a newer graphic card and a case with a window (I have that weird I want to look in to see feeling with my current case). Should I upgrade to skylake? I am worried that if I do get a newer graphic card that it would be bottleneck by my system. My friend helped me pick out my current set up ( except for the ssd that is my doing) and even built it for me. I only asked him to watch over since I haven't built since 2004-05 lolz. I built the system last year so should I upgrade or should I just build a new one? Thanks to originally researching for parts I've been watching tech channels ever since.

Right now I have a set up with

i3 4160

MSI z97 pc mate

212 EVO

8GB CRUCIAL Ballistix Sport 1600

PNY CS1311 240gb ssd and 1tb hard drive ( scrapped from a NAS setup budget made me do it wasn't in use though still have the enclosure)

Sapphire R9 280 3gb Dual-X

NZXT Source 210 Elite non window black

Seasonic G 750 750w gold semi modular

I think you would only be bottlenecked by the CPU if its a game or simulation that likes to utilize have lots of physical cores. I would still upgrade the CPU with the GPU just to be sure if it was my system. What GPU are you thinking of buying?

Like if you liked it. Share it if you thought it was great. Leave a reply if you emotions are a bit more complicated   ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you get an overclocked I5 (or even a reasonably clocked locked model) and drop it into that existing system with no other modifications you will be able to run any GPU on the market today without fear of shooting yourself in the foot. As much as I fanboy over skylake and DDR4 and USB C and whatnot, upgrading that system is probably the better investment for you.

Rx 480 or the GTX 1060 I want the 1070 though. My i3 has been performing really well I just didn't know if it was still worth upgrading the parts I want to upgrade. I want to bump up to 16gb and a faster ram speed, i5 K, and a newer or at least last gen graphic card.

My budget would be more if I rebuild. I just want a more effective gaming experience. I was thinking of giving my current rig to my parents as they need a new PC. My dads tower just died  of old age and my old laptop has already dried up the paste that I recently reapplied. That laptop only has one heat pipe for a second gen i3. So I would budget more if I built new.
