I was wondering what voltage would be safe with a h80i in a push pull config

Also I have a ga -970-ud3 mobo and can't get the cpu ubove 4.3ghz on stock voltage and when I increase it it crashes so do I have a bad chip or bad board. I am getting a crosshair 5 formula soon

I love gaming,pc building,talking tech.

I have the same board, with a 5GHz overclock so the board is capable. The highest I have ever taken my chip is 1.55v(5.4GHz), but that is dangerous and it was only for a hour. The highest I would go on an 8350 is 1.475v

what voltage are you using???? the max for phenom (45nm) was around 1.5 but most kept a more reasonable ceiling of 1.45, for piledriver (32nm) i think 1.5 is considered the maximum if your really pushing it, 1.4 should be plenty for any decent 4.5ghz clock. i think stock is 1.3??? intels 32nm chips used a similar voltage.
as the clock speed rises the voltage increase needed is squared and the power draw/heat output is cubed (im probably mistaken slightly but its something like that).
it becomes a race of diminishing returns which is why most people have a modest overclock these days
you have a good vrm phase, cooling shouldnt be an issue.
id say 4.3ish is fine anyway in gaming atleast theres only so much to be gained from overclocking, a 12.5% overclock might give you just 3% more speed.

in video rendering then yeah its more linear (and ram speed starts to matter too).

yes I know. I ment to quote d3mons because he asked what voltage I was using. Also is the crosshair 5 formula worth it or should I just get the ga-990fx

Stick with your current motheboard.

I don't want to stick with my board because it doesn't support xfire. I'm getting a 2nd 7950

hard choice, ive been debating ch-fv-z vs ud7 for ages, i love x16 slots (work stations:P) but i have done a fair bit of overclocking too.

id say

tight on cash-keep your current board

tight on cash but want lots of slots-UD3

are a bit mental like me and like the idea of 4 graphics cards for the lolz some day-ud7

dont mind a red theme and like a great software with fan xpert etc-crosshair 5 formula z....expensive though....

i would get a ud7 over the crosshair v formula if i was buying a new board. the only problem is that its eatx so it might not fit your case.

My other rig has a FX6300 @ 4.5GHz 1.44v cooled with an H80 and on the 970a ud3. It's been that way for nearly two years and was my main rig for Guild Wars 2, which is heavy on the cpu, and I never had problems.

i would get a ud7 over the crosshair v formula if i was buying a new board. the only problem is that its eatx so it might not fit your case.

I agree, that mobo is great looking.
