Hi, my parents are in need of a new TV as their current 1080p TV has a failing panel. I'm not sure what to look for in a new TV nowdays so I'd like to get some input, I think it's probably smart to get a full 4K one but I don't think curved is the way to go. Also I'm not sure if smart tv is the way to go, as the TV I have gets slower and slower to the point that it has to be on for 1 min before I can press any buttons on the remote before it does anything (it's not even a year old). In a perfect scenario I'd just get whatever good 4k model there is and hook it up with an Apple TV for the smart tv functions as they seem to not get that sluggish that fast in my experience.

It's hard to find a "dumb" UHD TV nowadays. What price range are you looking at?

I suggest looking at the following items:

1. After-sales support (whichever brand does well in your location)

2. Static contrast ratio (you can often notice this when viewing high contrast images)

3. Output accuracy and calibration controls (if this matters enough to your parents)

4. HDMI 2.0a (or newer) compatibility

5. Panel reflectivity (if you'd be placing the unit in a bright room)

Well we are Norway based which will inflate all prices, but we won't break in to 2300$ territory (weird number but that's the current exchange). I'd like you to tell me more about contrast if you can, what's a good number? and also there are "different ways" to meassure it now (bullcrap ofc) so what is the good way to make sure you get a good one? After sales support isn't a big issue here, because of legislations that say this and that, basically after sales support in Norway is pretty darn good whatever brand you buy or they don't get to sell their stuff here (simple as that).
