Is the electric wiring good in your house? Because that will determine performance in addition to actual usability. I personally have no experience with Powerline though.

I've no idea what the wiring quality is like. The building was built in the 70s, in Vancouver, so I would imagine the proper codes and standards would have been adhered to.

go Ethernet the chance powerline will work better then wifi is slim to none. wired is better always

I tested my electrical lines before I bought a powerline adapter.  I borrowed my brother's kit.  See if you find someone that has a powerline adapter kit and ask to borrow it for an hour.

I dropped from 80Mb/s (ethernet) to 40Mb/s (powerline).  It was fast enough for me, so I went and bought one.

I would do what the comments above me said and ask anyone you know with an adapter to borrow it and test it out to see how well it works for you. Either that, or you could buy one at a store that has a good return policy and then return it if it sucks.

The only way to really test how great the wiring in your house for internet is would be to straight up try it.

Also, if you live in the US or Canada (this will also apply to other countries, on a case-by-case basis), you can buy a Powerline Ethernet Kit from Wal-Mart or Best Buy, and you can return it no questions asked (within 14 to 30 days, depending on location). This will allow you to test out your internal wiring, without committing to a product that might not work.
