I would personally skip the corsair fan, because good luck noticing the difference except the 27$ missing from your wallet.

And i dont think its worth getting the GTX 970 when better/cheaper cards are out now.

If you can wait for some boardpartner rx 480's those will probably be a better option.

And you have the GTX 1070 so maybe drop down the CPU and cooler to afford that. Or get a 980ti, those are dropping in price.

But if you are set on the ~250$ and don't want RX 480, atleast take the R9 390 over that as its a bit more powerful and performs a fair bit better in some DX12 titles.

To be honest grossly underpowered for the budget. $1900 should net you at the very least a 1070, possibly a 1080. Let me try my hand at making a better build, I will use 1600 has reference so I can just skip adding the HDDs

I've had the 970 for some time, even before the 10 series cards rolled out

Hold on a minute, a 45$ PSU?

You should probably get something else...can't find any reviews for that unit and its not on any of the "these PSUs are good enough" lists.

Yeah, I've been meaning to replace it since I got it, but i havent had any problems with it yet

@Topkek

List what you're going to re-use and how much budget you have for which new components. It will allow us to give you the most relevant build we can

Unfortunately as Starelementpoke said you overspent, $1900 and just a 970 is unfortunately too underpowered relative to what you could have gotten for the money you spend. For $1900 you should have an I7 and a GTX 1070 or stronger

Well Ill be getting a 1070 soon, as I can still return the 970 as its under warranty.

I'd look into a different monitor as well. At $250, an IPS monitor is a must. Peripherals are very user dependent, but IMO you can do much better than Razer at this price.

Correction. If you're on 75Hz or lower, you might as well go IPS. TN is pointless for anything that isn't 144Hz 1MS (and even 1ms is not that important)

Everything is better than razer almost. Logitech, zowie and steelseries make far better mice (you'll want optical btw @Topkek) and Das, Ducky, Logitech, Steelseries and corsair make better keyboards.

From what I've seen the monitor I'm using is really good, plus it was a christmas gift, so I'm not complaining

I'm sure its a great machine and does everything you want, but yeah, its not super optimized.

It is common for people to slowly piece together a build over time which results in some parts being high end, and some not so much.  For my own rig, I spent a lot on cooling fans and SSD, but only running an i5 and 970.

i7 4790k @4.7 | GTX 1070 Strix | Z97 Sabertooth | 32GB  DDR3 2400 mhz | Intel 750 SSD | Define R5 | Corsair K70 | Steel Series Rival | XB271, 1440p, IPS, 165hz | 5.1 Surround

@Topkek Everyone here is saying "you overspent, you should have a stronger computer if you spend 1900 bucks on it".... and you should. but you didn't spend 1900 bucks on your computer. you spent like $1250 (including the cost of your reused HDD's). Everything else was spent on the periphreals.

So if we take out those HDD's and look at the $1106 you actually spent, and try to rearrange it for MAXIMUM performance.

for 1050, this is what I get: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/g23VYr

You lose your ability to overclock, you lose aesthetically pleasing solution, you lose alot of motherboard expandability. You get lower budget things like your SSD. You get a garbage case, and the list goes on. that being said, this second build is technically a better performing PC (without any regard for quality of life components)

Yes, there WAS something technically better to spend your money on based on EXACTLY today's prices, but from what I understand in this thread, you've been collecting these parts over a little while here. Sure, you could have gotten a technically better computer. But that doesn't mean that you built a bad one or overspent. I made my PC 3 months ago, 6700k, 980ti, AIO cooling, the works. If I tried building that PC today, it would be cheaper than what I paid for it 3 months ago. or I could build a better system for the same cost. that's just how PC building works. That doesn't mean my PC is bad or overpriced. I also could have spent alot less on certain things, but I wanted to be able to overclock, I wanted it to look good, I wanted specific things for specific personal reasons. and I paid extra for them, knowing full well it wasn't exactly the absolute best performance/dollar ratio. that doesn't make it a bad system.

Don't listen to the haters. enjoy your PC. You did fine. after all, its YOUR PC.
