Ok so my friend has a problem with his PC and i feel like its a power supply or Mobo problem any help would be great as he cant afford to replace parts willy nilly until he finds the problem im going to quote word for word what he said to give a clear idea.

"PC randomly shut down with no warning no BSOD left it a couple of mins fans span up like normal but no post and wont boot this has happened before but it turned on normally" now he also said temps are fine however he said hes not sure if he was looking at the correct temps he cant remember what temps he was watching but he said his PC normally runs cool the program he used to monitor temps was "Speccy" never heard of it myself so no idea if its normally reliable.

i was also thinking maybe its something shorting out but not sure

To finish it all of here is a list of parts in case one is known to fail or has a bad reputation

Mobo: Gigabyte B85HD3

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 760

CPU: I5 4670k (no OC)

PSU: Corsair CXM 600w Modular

HDD: seagate 1TB (i know this is not the problem)

EDIT: I know more information would be helpful but unfortunately this is all i have to go on as hes not the best when it comes to these kinds of things and i'm not amazing myself any help or even just a yes its a mobo or psu problem would be great

If it would be the PSU, the system would, most likely, not POST at all. However you cant rule it out exactly either.

With no BIOS beep codes it is also close to impossible to narrow it down to a single component.

Ultimately, you or rather he, will have to exchange the components 1by1 untill its fixed.

Though it could be that his RAM MHZ-speeds exceed the PC's capabilitys.

To eleborate that:

I once had that when I ordered my old PC, around 2012~ from an PC store that custom build+stresstestet it for me. I picked it up, brought it home and it would just start, fan speed up, no screen image and just shut down a few seconds after.

Turns out the RAM they put in the system exceeded the capabilitys of either the CPU or motherboard and every time you unplugged the PC from the wall socket, you would need to press the "MEM OK" button on the mainboard itself, to even make it boot.

So assuming a electrical caused shutdown happend to his PC, this could be the cause, as the surge protection kicked in and hence acted like a total elecricity removal.

@Nord or quote me if you want me to reply back. I don't necessarily check back or subscribe to every topic.

Thank you for the reply i can say its not the ram as he hasn't overclocked anything and the ram is standard 1600mhz team elite 8GB

Will just see what he can do with the little money he has and will give an update if or when its fixed.
