hi i am building a skylake pc and i want suggestions for cpu's that will be great for basic web browsing without breaking the bank.

Just browsing? Or some basic gaming aswell?
If you are building a decent browsing machine, that can handle office and lots more. then go for a i3-6100.
If its just browsing and office, and you wan't it to be less power consuming, go for a Pentium G4400 (I'm gaming with a G3258, still good for me ;Þ)

If you are gaming though, buy a i5-6600(K)

okay thanks. so the skylake i5 ( i would prob go for 6500) should be more than enough for web browsing and some basic gaming

The i3 would be fine for that, depends how often you play things and what you play

i wouldnt get a 6700 but if i did, would there be a noticeable performance gain for web browsing?

Nope. You'll get more out of an SSD and a better internet plan rather than a CPU.

As long as gaming is one of the use areas, i would definetly go with a i5 6600K. Then you have the option to play heavier games later if you decide to do that. You can with a i3 too, but you will lose performance vs a 6600K.

For non gaming uses, a i5 6600K is ofc overkill. But if you are gaming a little or much, the 6600K is the best choice in my opinion because it lets you play heavier games if you want to.
