Automatic Pagefile solved issues?? What happened?

For months I have developed issues involving "Your computer is low on memory" when editing in PP, but more recently even playing games that should NOT require over the 8gb that I have. I have spent countless hours troubleshooting. Today, I decided to investigate my pagefile to find it was manually set to start at 200mb and gp up to 1Gb. (Im assuming something like Samsung magician set this at some point). At first I tried increasing the size of the pagefile to 2Gb to no avail. Then I tried setting it to manage itself and VIOLA! It seems to have solved my problems! 

 

Can someone explain what in the world happened and why this may have solved my problems? Thanks!

you do not mess with pagefile - period

it's a very important aspect of the OS that doesn't only do "virtual memory"
