New to Android app Development

I am new to Android design and programming, I want to develop a very simple app for my work and I need help. What are some useful tools in learning a new programming language and developing an app.

This is kind of a side project I am allowed about 5hrs per week to learn and develop this app. I need to make this app very cross platform compatible so starting with Android and eventually moving to iOS. The time frame on this project is about 12 months, and if I can pitch my superiors on getting a real budget to help accelerate the process than I would to hire members of the LTT community to help with the development as well as the cross platform integration and long term support and updates.

Appreciate all the help I can get.

The first thing to get of course is the Android SDK. You might also want to download the Android Development Tools(ADT) plugin for the Eclipse IDE. Other than that, there's a ton of resources available out there such as the xda developers community.

The android SDK comes fully loaded with eclipse with ADT built in, so you are ready to go ^_^

Awesome thanks. I have been looking at this for learning about the app development. http://developer.android.com/training/index.html Any suggestions on where to learn Java?

And you have been looking in the exact right place. It doesn't get much more official than that.

Likewise I'd recommend the official java tutorials at http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/
