If a CPU and motherboard has the same socket can it work.

As I went into a manual of a motherboard (gigabyte ga-h55m-ud2h) it shows it does not allow the Intel Xeon X3440 but how come as it is the same 1156 socket and wondering if it would work if I did get the cpu.

Or if there is a mod that can make it work in the bios or something similar

Thanks

if the socket of the CPU matches the socket on the Motherboard, they should work. Sometimes it may require a BiOS update though if the board is older and is using a new CPU. IE the new X-99's or when intel used 1155 for both Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge.

Looking at the info sheet from Gigabyte, it lists 2 of its bigger brothers, the x3450 and x3480 on its supported sheet, so I dont see why the 3440 would not work.

np, yea they both use the same architecture, same wattage, so should be zero reason that I can see spec wise for it to not work.

Thanks as the CPU is cheap on ebay and thought why not as it has 4 cores 8 threads. Thanks
