Yeah, slap me or something lol. My entire network is still on Windows 7. Anyways, Im trying to upgrade one of the PCs to Windows 10 via USB drive, using an ISO i downloaded earlier. The issue im having is that the install is rejecting all of my keys, both the Windows 8 key from my laptop, the Windows 7 key from my desktop, and the 8.1 key from the laptop im trying to upgrade. What would I do to fix this issue. I really dont wanna download windows 10 all over again. Sitting here for 6 hours with nothing to do is really annoying. Thanks :D

Why would a windows key for anything but 10 be recognised for a 10 install .

The freebie time portion for upgrade is over (29th ?). Whether (or when) this comes back or MS do something different is a moot point

Have you checked out the date on that article ?

That was three months in to a year long free upgrade deal that is now over.

At this stage you will have to go the full buy a legit(ish) key for 10.  MS may reintroduce another free upgrade method [1] but they haven't as of yet.

[1] After all they want everyone(well 100%of windows users) on 10 so they can sell all that lovely data.

If you are at the setup stage, click on "I don't have one"

In Windows 10, do Start > Settings > Update & Security > Activation

And now enter your Windows 7/8 key

And what if there isnt a "I dont have one" button there?

It reads to me that he is trying to download, then install, a 10 ISO then inputting a 7/8.1 key not using an approved working upgrade path, and with MS beyond the free upgrade thing this will NOT work.  He will need to buy a full copy of 10 or perhaps one of the cheap keys from kinguin/techradar/somesuch or perhaps MS will reintroduce a free upgrade path and he waits for that

The upgrade period ends July 29th. I still have 28 days to activate this pile of trash

So that means you didn't get it from Microsoft servers via the Media Creation Tool, I am assuming... right?

I did get it from the Media Creation Tool. Spent all night downloading it lol. I managed to get it to install, But it isnt taking the 8.1 key that was on this laptop prior to install. Im perfectly fine with having this thing not registered, however, the person using it may think otherwise
