My younger brother just got a free computer with a core i5 750, 4gb of ddr3 ram, and an hd 5450. Obviously he should get more ram + a better gpu, so i was wondering, what is the highest gpu he could get without hitting a major bottleneck at 1080p? The RX 480 is looking appealing, simply because even if it gets bottlenecked in a bunch of games, i dont think it would bottleneck a lot, and if he upgrades, itll still be a great card. Also, would it be worth it to get a better cooler and overclock, or just hunt down a core i7? If he gets a better cpu he wont be able to get a better cooler till much later.

I don't trust the 480 yet

i have a dual Xeon X5650 system and i pair it with a GTX 760 and have no issues at all except in very CPU bound titles. id say an RX 480 is fine but wait until the aftermarket boards come out as the current reference models have a power issue

I'd wait until the aftermarket versions of the RX 480 come out.

Do NOT buy a 1070, and most likely not a 480 either. It will bottleneck very much. Upgrade cpu, MB and ram before a gpu. A i7 6700K or a i5 6600K will last much longer, and will not bottleneck a high end gpu. If you buy a good gpu with that setup, you will not get the most out of the card, because the cpu has to slow down the gpu to hang on. CPU should be your number one priority here, along with for example a rx 480.
