i always upgrade on which of pc parts sucks the worst, and that would be your graphics card so buy an rx 480

OK so i have a 

AMD FX-6300 6-Core Processor Black Edition

And a

EVGA GeForce GTX 660 SC 3GB GDDR5 

 

And i only have money to upgrade one of them.

is my performance going to be affected too much if i change only my graphics card?

im thinking of buying a GTX 970 or a RX480.

You have a ok CPU and a incredibly bad GPU so go get a RX 480 and not a GTX 970
