So I just got done reading a couple articles about how the ai from a raspberry pi beat a pilot from the military whether retired or whatever this is still super exciting me being a cs student it's kinda my thing lol anyways anyone have any experience with them I'm thinking about getting the model 3 just to screw around with it and I absolutely love the Python programming language so I think it would be pretty awesome 50 bucks and you can get a starter kit mobo/case/power cable etc

Do you even need the starter kit? most people have the extra bits lying around -

 I have most of the things I need just not the basic things they have kits on Amazon for 75 that includes a msd card but I already have one even still that's like dirt cheap

All you need for the Pi to get started is the power, which if you have a 2A or better laying around will do, I used to power my Pi2 from my TV, so that might be an option, not sure of the power draw for the Pi3, an HDMI lead and a MicroSD card... plus the usual keyboard/mouse.
