I have a corsair cx600 and the gtx 1070 says it needs a minimum 500w power supply I haved the corsair CX600 600w 80+ bronze and was wondering if this is a good PSU to use? or If i should get more power just to be sure?

It's got plenty of power but if you can afford to have somehow gotten your hands on a GTX 1070 these days then you can definitely afford a higher quality PSU. An EVGA B2 750W (way overkill wattage-wise but they don't sell it with lesser wattage) would be a substantial upgrade for not a lot of money.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

The wattage is fine, but the quality isn't.

For all you know he has the new CX600, which is noticeably better. Not that it should really matter either way considering how efficient a 1070 is.

The new CX650*

There's no new 600W version.

I could've sworn there was a new 600. Whatever, I still stand by my second point.

OK thanks for all the suggestions. I will probably try and get a New PSU maybe thinking of this one http://www.ncix.com/detail/evga-supernova-750-g1-80-24-97307.htm

The G1 is pretty low quality too.

EVGA G2, GS, and GQ are the ones to aim for.

You can check out this list for even more options:

That's not a very good PSU for you either. The GS/G2/GQ are the good ones in the gold-rated range.

backing this one, i was looking trough power supplies for a friend earlier.

basicly, something EVGA G2 B2, P2, and whatever else their good ones are, are very good picks in the USA.

on the european side corsair RMi/RMx seems to still be the best price in the high quality range.

People here always get all antsy about not having top tier PSU's. Just because its not the best doesn't mean its junk. If you're not overclocking your nuts off, a CX600 is a fine PSU. MOST of them are. granted there are tangible differences in quality between low end and high end PSU's, things that definitely make them worth buying. and if you can afford a 1070 you probably could afford to get a better PSU, but its certainly not REQUIRED.

Whilst its not a bad idea to upgrade off of a CX600, theres no real reason to feel obligated to do so. Its not a PSU that is so bad its dangerous to use or anything like that. Of course if you buy a solid PSU now with a 10 year warranty, then you never have to question or worry about it for a whole 10 years :P which is also a good idea ;)

the thing with the CX600 is that he's buying a $600 graphics card, if he has that kind of money for a graphics card he can squeeze out just under $100 for a high quality psu that'll be a much better pick in the long term.

note we're not saying he should toss the CX out the window, it'll do perfectly fine for a spare unit, or for a lower end build.
