Wich gpu

Flavortown2k16

Hello, Im thinking of buying a new gpu to replace my 2gb version of 960. I was thinking of getting 980 for 450e (~500$). I was also looking at 1070, but since its being out of stock most of the time and also going for the low low price of 550e (~600$) its seems like a waste of money. I only play at 1080p and have 0 interst in vr. Also there was a option to take 480 but its most likely going to be waywayway overpriced.

EDIT I found a 980 ti asus strix for 500e but the store is in other city

You can look into the 2nd hand market for 2nd hand 980/980Ti. They should be really cheap now. For 1080p to be fair even a 970 would be enough. And also the RX 480 would come at $240 so in Eur it should be about 300-400 at best, still better than a 450E GTX 980 IMO.

As far as I know then GTX 980 has a really bad price / performance ratio and in that case GTX 970 / R9 390 would be the better options.

Can't you get a GTX 980 Ti for those 550 euros? Even a used one would be perfect.

Also consider ordering a GPU from a different country, I think I saw someone post yesterday about them ordering PC parts from Denmark and he/she lives in Finland as well and saves some money by doing so.

I wouldn't buy a 4gig card for 500€ in 2016, no way, for 200€ yes, but no way I'd give that amount of money for 4gigs. Also I'm afraid Nvidia will abandon Maxwell in 2 years or so, just like they did with Kepler. But I'd love to be proven wrong.

It's basically a last-gen card now, have that in mind as well. Also, why not just wait for the 480 benchmarks to reveal, it's supposed to be 250€ for the 8gig model. And I hear that the 1060 will be announced on 07.07.2016. (videocardz.com).

If it was 250 for the 480 I would be riding that red side 100% but lookin at the prices on other gpu's its not going to be cheap. Atm 500 for 980ti seems Like a good deal, but if the billing service doesnt take my offer ill have to wait for next months 15th day and it will be diffrent story. Hopefully

If your mind is already set, then there's no point to this topic.

But like I always say: If you can wait, you should wait. If you can't wait get the best deal you can, or a stopgap.

I'm considering getting a second-hand 970 as a stopgap if the 480 doesn't deliver performance better than 390-390x. I'd love me some of that nvidia lovin' but not at those prices, they're not getting my money even if I have an nvidia 3d monitor, I don't care.

The 480 will be out in... 3 hours for US, so for you it should already be out in the store (or at least they should already listed the price), why dont you check it?

But between that and a 980Ti, I'd get the 980Ti though.

He said he made a typo and meant to say he is thinking about getting a GTX 980 Ti not a GTX 980.

In that case it's not too bad of a deal. It just kinda sucks that for the same money you should be able to get a GTX 1070.

If you have the patience then wait until the price for 1070 stabilizes.

I can get Gigabye G1/EVGA GTX 1070 in my country for 500 euros and cheapest GTX 980 Ti is 455 euros. I am trying to get a used 980 Ti for 400 euros or else I won't buy one because as I said previously it sucks to pay the same amount of money for an older card when you can buy a newer one. So I would wait if I was you.

My bad, I was thinking about the 980 when I wrote that.

Also, the 450 is literally 2x cheaper.

Don't get a used 980 ti since gpus don't last very long in my experience and the 980 ti has been out for a while which leads me to believe that it will last 2 years tops so

i'd highly recommend waiting for a 1070 to be back in stock or something

I disagree, my GT 8800 still works today. It depends on operating temperatures, also the 980 ti is exactly 1 year old now, as a model :)

For some reason the older cards seem to last longer, if you are set on getting the use 980 ti then confirm with the seller if it was used for mining or anything similar and if it was don't get at any cost. Good luck to you :)
