Greetings,

About two days ago, I purchased an Xbox One for myself. I placed it in the basement, as that's the only place I could actually host it, since it's isolated and has a pretty good sound system down there.

Upon trying to connect to Xbox Live, I found out it couldn't even work because my internet connection is total and utter shit. My family has only one router, and it's located on the main floor, so the signal does not carry to the basement.

My parents will not permit me to move the router to the basement, as it will drastically affect Internet speed throughout the entire house. There is no Ethernet jack in my basement.

Does anyone have any idea how I'd boost my speeds in the basement? I checked out a few products that claimed they were "router boosters", but I'm quite new to all of this material and I have no idea where to start.

Id appreciate any help you can give! Thanks in advance to everyone.

There are range extenders out there, its basically a device that picks up the signal of the router and repeats it further away to get a better signal.

This TP-Link AC1200 (RE355) for instance.

Here's a video to set this one up:

Hope this helps you out.

You could always try powerline ethernet adapters like the  TP-LINK AV500 Nano or  TP-LINK AV1200

Or if you want to beef up the wifi getting a dedicated access point that you plug into your router and set up to take the place of your current wifi network I would recommend the Ubiquiti UAP AC LR or Ubiquiti UAP AC Lite
