1070 Pricing

Hey guys, was thinking about getting a 1070 but am wondering if anyone has any idea if the 3rd party cooled cards will eventually become cheaper than the founders edition cards? (as they are currently more expensive than the founder edition cards) And how long do you think we will have to wait?

If they even do. I could see them staying where they are if people keep buying them, and in certain aspects I can totally understand why the board partners see that pricing as justified.

Here in Canada we're starting to see a few custom cards come in at a lower price.  Founders edition here is about $609 and you can get something like an MSI Armor for $569 or a gigabyte windforce for $539.

Depends what you want out of the card. A few 3'rd party manufacturers have announced a barebones card that will be $379 but they'll have crap cooling and the lowest factory clocks. I think it's worth the extra $40 to get something like the GIgabyte G1 Gaming GTX 1070 for $419. It's basically the same amount extra I would've paid in tax if I went to Best Buy and I got a much better card for it.

That being said, I don't think the higher end 1070's will ever come down to $379 because they already have lesser models at that price point.

Wait for the blower-style coolers if you want to snag a card anywhere near MSRP. The good news is that the 1070 puts out even less heat than the 1080 so performance shouldn't be terrible.

At some point in the next four months to a year AMD will release Vega, and then you can expect a dramatic price drop for the 1070. Of course, that might just happen anyway given how unknown the timeframe is.
