Hi guys! I'm nearly complete building hackintosh. Here is the part list -> http://pcpartpicker.com/list/KWV4Cy

I'm not so sure if I should go with the mobo I have or go with the ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII Hero Alpha.  It's compatible, but I'm not so sure of it's stability. I personally like the maximus better so what should I get? And also, a check of the hardware compatibility and optimisation is appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry, it's hackintosh so it won't be compatible. I will be gaming and vid editing, internet, schoolwork, etc.

If its for gaming why on earth are you not using windows or linux. and like PeloyGeek said, theres prob no drivers for it.

I'm way too used to macs. Please understand.

Sorry to tell you this but anything coming from apple is a massive ripoff, even if its free. I wouldnt go with high end gpu if the mac os is a must. just go something like 960 or 750ti. Since theres prob like 0 driver support you cant expect any performance from high end cards so theres no point in wasting money there.

Btw, can you guys just check if all the hardware is good enough and compatible? I heard enough "Screw macs, go for windows" and questions for hackintosh. Please just check for hardware compatibility and if it will be good enough. Thanks.

Later on I might learn how to use windows and change to windows. So for now, it's hackintosh.

You can try doing dual boot with w10 on side just for gaming.

How much RAM is that, and is it DDR4? "Ballistix Sport LT" is a bit vague.

As for the motherboard, both the boards you're looking at are fine. ASUS Maximus boards are among the high end, so if you like it go ahead and get it.

Also, I'd go for Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound, it should be a little cheaper and it's a well proven product.

It seems a bit of a waste to make this a Hackintosh, though. That's good hardware, why not actually use it?

@Flavortown2k16 has a good recommendation, except I'd dual boot more to just get used to Windows in general and not just to use it for gaming.

Thanks, someone finally does a suggestion like this. The RAM is 32 gb of DDR4. the maximus hero alpha is in the compatible list but I'm not too sure of it's compatibility and stability. How do you dual boot?

I believe it's just choosing to boot up windows or hackintosh when you turn on your computer.

If you want to dual boot there are loads of tutorials online by searching up 'dual boot OSX Windows' that will go much more in depth that any answer you should expect to get from a forum when all the information is out there already. If the only reason you are using OSX is because your used to it I wouldn't bother dual booting, it's easier just to get used to a different, but very similar, operating system.

RAM looks fine then, as long as it's a 4x8GB kit. Often times you'll see 8x4GB kits meant for x99 (most people don't do 32GB on consumer platform), which obviously won't work in a board with only 4 slots.

ASUS is one of the most widely trusted motherboard manufacturers, and the Maximus series is their highest end lineup (for consumer platform, at least). I'm not seeing any compatibility conflicts, and you won't really have to worry about stability on such a nice board.

I don't personally know how to dual boot, I've never had a reason to. Either way, it's best you use a YouTube tutorial because, as others have said, it'll contain way more information than a forum post. I can't give you a specific one because I don't know what should and shouldn't be included, maybe someone else has one to suggest.

Another thing to comment on is the GPU. I didn't mention it at first because it looked like people were already discussing it, but I'd like to offer my input:

I don't know about the 1080's compatibility with OSX, but that doesn't really matter to my recommendation because I don't think you should be using OSX on a gaming machine. You should buy the best single GPU you can afford, and it looks like your budget isn't exactly restrictive, so I would suggest going for a 1080. As for which one, I've never had issues with MSI TF cards, but the 1080 is still new enough that we've barely seen the landscape, so I'd suggest looking around at what people are saying.

Thank you soo much! Much appreciated! My choice was a 2X16gb but I guess I'll have to go with a 4X8gb kit. I'll go with the ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO ALPHA mobo and I really don't want to risk 600$ on a GPU that won't work so I'll probs stick with the 980ti I have and tbh, it looks cool and since my case will have a vertical GPU mount, it will look better :D. I always can upgrade later to a 1080 when I'm sure OSX supports 10 series. Thanks again!

Always glad to help~

And maybe by the time OSX supports the 10 series, the 1080 ti will be out... That'd be a fun upgrade :3

I can't find a black/red colour crucial ballistix 4X8gb kit... sigh...

Well, my thing about the RAM was that it shouldn't be more than 4 DIMMs. Less than that is fine.

The Hero Alpha's spec sheet says it supports a maximum of 64GB, so it should be able to handle 16GB DIMMs. My understanding is that support for that density is a little iffy right now, but it doesn't look like there's a reason for it not to work.

Yeah, I'm just trying to get the colours xD PCPP won't let me choose colours and I want my whole build to be black / red :3

Also, will the wifi / wireless work?
