Hey,

So I have been getting a few blue screens of death recently... 2 today and 1 more within a week.

The errors I got were:

page error in nonpaged area

CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT

Those two happened today and when I ran a virus scan (norton). Both BSODs happened about 2-3 minutes after I ran a virus scan.

I also have an issue where 7zip randomly opens what looks like a command line console. They might be unrelated, but thoughts?

Let me know, I have't lost anything yet, but it is a PITA

If you can, try scanning it on a different computer in safe mode, connected as a spare drive. Did you download 7Zip from the right place?

Also, ew, norton.

Winrar FTW!

And also... If your virus scan makes your computer freak out with a BSOD, maybe you should not start any future virus scans?

/trolling mode off

I wonder what happens when you install another compressing tool. Will it still boot that thing? Did you get any automated updates which needed to finish? I remember from the past, where I worked at an ISP. (10+ years ago) When we would get suddenly hundreds of calls where people would say their internet suddenly stopped working, it seemed that Norton did an update, and considered "the internet" to be dangerous. I am not 100% sure about this, but I do remember Norton having more problems like this one. Maybe change virus scanners, and do a fresh scan. Maybe do it in windows safe mode, with your internet connection turned off. (just pull the modem adapter, so you are 100% you are not connnected to the internet)

It looks like that BSOD code is generally related to CPU overclocks. Is your CPU OC'd? In that case, you might want to dial the OC down or increase voltage and stress test (for 24 hours if you can) again.

Trying a virus scan of the drive from another computer is advised, and for the sake of your computer, run one with Malwarebytes as well.

Remove any overclock if you have one. Might be RAM related, run a prime95 test.

You can also try running a virus scan from a boot disk. Bitdefender Rescue CD and Kaspersky AV Rescue CD are both good, free options. This lets a virus scan happen without even booting into Windows.

I would, just in case, run diagnostics on your HDD. The "Page Error in Nonpaged Area" could refer to a bad sector on a hard drive. Also, if Norton is scanning and tries to access data on a bad sector it could potentially cause the BSOD.

Seagate Seatools and WD Data Lifeguard are two great free utilities with options to create boot cds as well.

Good luck.
