Okay, please forgive me not formatted text, writing from a phone.

So, I have two questions. First of all, my PS4 is sounding like a jet after 10 minutes of playing, also after half an hour in menu it's also loud. I have opened it once, fins of the heatsink and the fan were just a little dusty so I cleaned them but that didn't help. Now, can I be sure that replacing thermal paste will solve the issue? It seems so, but I really tend to break everything and just want you to confirm.

Also, PS4 power draw is said to be so low in standby mode, but the fan still spins like crazy, is it because when it's downloading stuff it uses much more power or something? I don't have any kill-a-watt device so I can't check..

Also, I have noticed that it makes pulsing whining noise when it's off, it's high pitched and I think comes from PSU, should I be worried? If I unplug it, it continues to do so until it's completly out of power, strange. And no, it's not like 50-60Hz hum pulsing, it's low frequency, maybe couple times a second.. weird..

I need S340. But more Define S'ish

Regarding the fan spinning while it's powered down, if you have anything network related enabled, the PS4 will keep some things on. I'm not sure why the fan is working that hard, but I do recall this was a thing in the PS3 as well (well, the fan staying on). I had to disable remote play to get it to finally shut down everything.

Also when the fan revs up into high gear, is the air actually hot? If not, I'd imagine it's a faulty thermal sensor.

I know, but still, it's loud..

And yes, it's hot, I mean, warm, the console's top is also heated, but I remember it beimg quieter and it isn't bearing like sound, rather laptop fan characteristics..

What about the whine?

I wouldn't bother with replacing thermal paste because it won't make a difference. As for the whine, that could be normal coil whine.

I guess the other important thing is it under any kind of warranty? Because I'd just send it back if it is.

Generally, fans in a computer turn on because the system thinks it's too hot.

First thing I would do is clean it.  If it's out of warranty, just open it (it's not difficult) and hit it with compressed air.

Rather than first assuming that something is wrong with the hardware, you should do some isolation/troubleshooting.  With this kind of issue, it might be convenient, but it will be very very easy.

Things you can do:

- Temporarily relocate the console in the same room.  For example, if it's in a cabinet, move it out.  If it's on the floor, put it on a table.  In other words, give it a flat, solid surface that has circulating air.  For the purpose of troubleshooting, I would recommend more than what the user guide tells you.

- Temporarily relocate the console to a different room doing the same things as above.

- Temporarily relocate the console in a different home.

All of that is to attempt to rule out environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.  Going by "But the thermostat in my home is only set to *** degrees" isn't the right frame of mind.
